We’ll Keep the Lights on for You

Lighting an art gallery requires a different strategy than lighting a studio where painting takes place. While we have beautiful art on consignment in our gallery, we are also a working studio–and it’s challenging to do both activities justice. We are so fortunate to have both north and south exposure/natural lighting, and often hear comments from our guests regarding how they like the lights, the wide open, airy feel of our gallery.

In December we decided to upgrade our track lighting from MR-16s to LED lights; even better–we received a 50% rebate from OPPD for the cost of the lights. We looked at a few different options and decided upon a clean, white light.

The gallery looks GREAT! While we still need our florescent lights in the middle of the room during our paint sessions, we can turn those off for other events to create a nice ambience. The art on our walls just pop–whether day or night.

We like feeling like we are doing our part to conserve energy, which is important. We are pleased with the end results–the marriage between our track lighting/LEDs and fluorescent lights. Check it out when you stop by!

Art Gallery and First Impressions

When we opened Village Canvas and Cabernet, we included a small art gallery with the goal to support Omaha arts and local artists. We consign all mediums of art, and its been a learning experience (of course!). Most of the artists we consign are showing, or have shown, in other galleries, so the work is nice. It creates such an inspiring environment, and we hear comments every day about how “cute” our place is, and watch our guests enjoy browsing and shopping.

It is super exciting to get new work in, and we have been trying to focus a bit more on the seasons and holidays. Right now, Valentine’s Day and St. Patty’s Day–then spring, Easter and Mother’s Day, etc.

Because of the art gallery, we are open every day except Monday, from 3 to 6 p.m. to allow for shopping. It’s certainly more work to be open daily, instead of only during our scheduled paint sessions. We do our best to keep the gallery sparkling clean. For us, its a quality issue…you only have once chance at a first impression, and we want it to be a good one when you step inside our doors, whether you are coming to paint or shop.
