About Us

John (Jack) and Kathy Moritz Byrnes created Village Canvas and Cabernet, Omaha’s paint and sip art gallery. Inspired by their love of art and experience in business, information technology, event planning, public relations and nonprofit leadership, Jack and Kathy bring a unique strength as former owners of Omaha’s Hot Shops Art Center in north downtown Omaha.

Kathy serves as CEO of Village Canvas and Cabernet, running the day-to-day operations.  A native of Omaha (Gross High and UNO grad), Kathy has always enjoyed the arts, taking classes throughout high school and during her undergraduate program. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a passion for the community and forging connections. For the five years prior to opening Village Canvas and Cabernet, she served as CEO of Prevent Blindness Nebraska.  Kathy is a graduate of Leadership Omaha Class 32, Nonprofit Executive Institute Class 5, and the AHA Creating Healthier Communities Fellowship Class 9.  She has served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations:  Wellness Council of the Midlands (WELLCOM), Prevent Blindness Nebraska, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Downtown YMCA, Bloomfield Forum, and the Sunrise Lion’s Club.

Jack was born in Argentia, Newfoundland Canada, making his way to Omaha via New York, California and Indiana; he is also a Gross High and UNO grad.  He is an active Board Member of the National Ski Patrol, Rocky Mountain Division, Eastern Region, and enjoys playing league ice hockey. An IT professional with a love of art and wine, he may often be found working behind the bar at Village Canvas and Cabernet.
